My Memory User Manual: Setup, Capture, Ask, Calendar and Local AI

1. Requirements and important facts

Optional Gemma models improve grounded answers. Optional Whisper enables My Memory’s controlled local dictation path and is required for the Hey Memory wake phrase. Larger models need more RAM and storage.

2. First-time setup

1. Install and open My Memory.
2. Allow notifications if you want reminders, daily briefs, download status and wake-word status.
3. On Today, tap Settings.
4. Enter the name the assistant should use.
5. Choose a Daily briefing time.
6. Turn on Speak today’s plan if wanted.
7. Download Whisper before enabling Hey Memory.
8. Tap Save assistant, then Hear today to test it.

Permissions

Notifications power reminders and visible background status. Microphone is used only for dictation and Hey Memory. Precise location is requested only after you tap Place. File picker access applies only to the item you select. The wake listener runs as a visible Android foreground service.

3. Capture memories

Tap Add something to remember…, enter text and tap Remember this. You can also add a photo, video, file, readable document or one current place. Share content directly to My Memory from WhatsApp, a browser, Gallery, Files or another Android app.

Turn a sentence into a plan

• “Renew my passport on 18 September at 10 am”
• “Remind me to call Mum tomorrow at 7 pm”
• “Pay the rent every month at 9 am”
• “Team review every Wednesday at 12 pm”

A recognized date or recurrence saves the original note and creates a linked calendar item. Without an explicit time, detected items default to 9:00 AM.

Documents

My Memory extracts text from TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, XML, HTML, selectable-text PDF, DOCX and best-effort DOC files. Scanned PDFs need OCR first. Preview the extracted content before saving; large files are capped to keep the phone responsive.

4. Ask and search

Memories provides text search plus filters for All, Notes, Photos, Videos, Files, Places and Hologram. Tap a result to open its relevant map, browser or attachment. Use WA for WhatsApp or Share for Android’s share chooser.

In Ask, type or speak a question about your saved memories or calendar. Answers include tappable source cards. If the evidence is absent, My Memory is designed to say it could not find it—not invent an answer.

5. Calendar, reminders and daily brief

Use month arrows, select a date and tap Add Event. Choose a start time, reminder and recurrence: None, Daily, Weekdays, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. Add to phone calendar opens Android’s standard insert screen so you can review before saving to a calendar provider.

Completed items remain visible. For a recurring item, Complete or Delete affects the stored series. The spoken daily brief reads today’s unfinished events using the installed Android text-to-speech voice.

6. Memory Beacon

Memory Beacon is a resizable neon home-screen widget showing only memories you explicitly select.

1. Open Memories.
2. Tap More → Show in hologram.
3. Confirm widget placement, or add My Memory → Memory Beacon from Android’s widget picker.
4. Tap NEXT to advance or tap the content to open that memory.

Removing the widget does not delete data. It is a home-screen widget—not a lock-screen or other-app overlay.

7. Local AI and voice models

Open Settings → Local Intelligence, select a suitable model and use Download, Pause, Resume, Import or Change model. Some repositories require free license acceptance and a read-only Hugging Face token. This is not a paid AI API key.

8. Data, backup and deletion

The database, copied attachments, extracted document text, summaries, chat and downloaded models live in private Android app storage. Network access is used for model downloads, links you open, limited reading from relevant saved links, and provider-dependent Android fallback speech recognition or geocoding.

Export

Go to Settings → Your Data → Export complete backup and choose where to save my-memory-backup.zip. The archive contains memory and calendar data plus existing attachments. Version 0.7.0 does not provide an in-app restore button; chat, preferences, models, widget selection and some calendar attributes are not included. Store the ZIP securely because it may contain documents, media and exact coordinates.

Delete

Individual memories, events and chat can be deleted from their respective screens. Delete everything permanently removes memories, attachments, calendar, conversations and managed models. There is no recycle bin or undo, so export first.

9. Troubleshooting

Reminders do not arrive

• Enable notifications.
• Check the event is unfinished and confirmed.
• Allow exact alarms for precise spoken briefs.
• Relax manufacturer battery restrictions if background work stops.
• Reopen the app after reboot if needed.

Ask takes too long or finds nothing

• Tap Stop answer and use a narrower date, type or keyword query.
• Verify the information exists in Memories.
• Use words from its note, filename, URL, document or place label.
• Use a smaller model and close other apps on low-memory phones.

Documents or models fail

Run OCR on scanned documents, remove passwords and prefer PDF/DOCX/TXT. For model downloads, check storage and connectivity, then Resume. Discard a corrupt partial file if necessary. Gemma 4 is required for image questions.
