How to Use My Memory: Simple Step-by-Step Guide
Manual version 0.7.0 · My Memory for Android
My Memory keeps important things on your phone and helps you find them later. This guide shows you how to set up the app, save items, search, make reminders, use optional AI, make a backup, and fix common problems.

1. What your phone needs
| Android | Android 8.0 or newer (API 26+) |
|---|---|
| Processor | 64-bit ARM (arm64-v8a) |
| Storage | Saved items, files, and optional AI use storage space on your phone |
| Network | You can search without internet. Internet is needed to download AI, open links, or read new information from a saved link. |
| Paid AI key | Not required |
Optional Gemma AI can improve answers based on your saved items. Optional Whisper lets you speak to the app and is needed for the Hey Memory wake phrase. Larger AI downloads need more phone memory and storage space.
2. Set up the app
- Install and open My Memory.
- Allow notifications if you want reminders, daily briefs, download status and wake-word status.
- On Today, tap Settings.
- Enter the name the assistant should use.
- Choose a Daily briefing time.
- Turn on Speak today’s plan if wanted.
- Download Whisper before enabling Hey Memory.
- Tap Save assistant, then Hear today to test it.
Permissions
Notifications are used for reminders and download updates. The microphone is used only when you speak to the app. Your exact location is requested only after you tap Place. The app can open only the file you choose. When Hey Memory is listening, Android shows that the app is running.
3. Save something
Tap Add something to remember…, enter text and tap Remember this. You can also add a photo, video, file, readable document or one current place. Share content directly to My Memory from WhatsApp, a browser, Gallery, Files or another Android app.
Make a reminder with a sentence
- “Renew my passport on 18 September at 10 am”
- “Remind me to call Mum tomorrow at 7 pm”
- “Pay the rent every month at 9 am”
- “Team review every Wednesday at 12 pm”
If the app finds a date or repeat pattern, it saves the note and adds it to the calendar. If you do not give a time, it uses 9:00 AM.
Documents
My Memory can read text from TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, XML, HTML, text-based PDF, DOCX, and some DOC files. Scanned PDFs must be changed into readable text first. Check the preview before you save.

4. Ask and search
Memories provides text search plus filters for All, Notes, Photos, Videos, Files, Places and Hologram. Tap a result to open its relevant map, browser or attachment. Use WA for WhatsApp or Share for Android’s share chooser.
In Ask, type or speak a question about your saved memories or calendar. Answers include tappable source cards. If the evidence is absent, My Memory is designed to say it could not find it—not invent an answer.
- “What did I save about the passport?”
- “Show files from this month.”
- “What is on my calendar tomorrow?”
- “Summarize the document about insurance.”
5. Calendar, reminders and daily brief
Use month arrows, select a date and tap Add Event. Choose a start time, reminder and recurrence: None, Daily, Weekdays, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. Add to phone calendar opens Android’s standard insert screen so you can review before saving to a calendar provider.
Completed items remain visible. For a recurring item, Complete or Delete affects the stored series. The spoken daily brief reads today’s unfinished events using the installed Android text-to-speech voice.
6. Memory Beacon
Memory Beacon is a home-screen box that shows only the saved items you choose.
- Open Memories.
- Tap More → Show in hologram.
- Confirm widget placement, or add My Memory → Memory Beacon from Android’s widget picker.
- Tap NEXT to advance or tap the content to open that memory.
Removing the widget does not delete data. It is a home-screen widget—not a lock-screen or other-app overlay.
7. Optional AI and voice downloads
| Model | Approx. size | Suggested RAM |
|---|---|---|
| Gemma 3 1B int4 | 584 MB | 6 GB |
| Gemma 4 E2B | 2.59 GB | 8 GB |
| Gemma 4 E4B | 3.66 GB | 12 GB |
| Whisper Tiny | 78 MB | Faster dictation |
| Whisper Base | 148 MB | Better accuracy |
Open Settings → Local Intelligence, choose an AI download that fits your phone. You can download, pause, continue, import, or change it. Some downloads need a free Hugging Face account and token. You do not need a paid AI key.
8. Your data, backup, and delete options
Your saved items, copied files, document text, summaries, chats, and downloaded AI stay in private app storage. The app uses internet only for AI downloads, links you open, limited reading from saved links, and some Android voice or map services.
Export
Go to Settings → Your Data → Export complete backup and choose where to save my-memory-backup.zip. The ZIP includes saved items, calendar data, and files. Version 0.7.0 cannot restore the ZIP inside the app. Chats, settings, AI downloads, widget choices, and some calendar details are not included. Keep the ZIP safe because it may contain private files and locations.
Delete
Individual memories, events and chat can be deleted from their respective screens. Delete everything permanently removes saved items, files, calendar events, chats, and downloaded AI. You cannot undo this, so make a backup first.
9. Troubleshooting
Reminders do not arrive
- Enable notifications.
- Check the event is unfinished and confirmed.
- Allow exact alarms for precise spoken briefs.
- Allow My Memory to run in the background if reminders stop.
- Reopen the app after reboot if needed.
Ask takes too long or finds nothing
- Tap Stop answer and use a narrower date, type or keyword query.
- Verify the information exists in Memories.
- Use words from its note, filename, URL, document or place label.
- Use a smaller AI download and close other apps if your phone has little free memory.
Documents or models fail
Change scanned documents into readable text, remove passwords, and use PDF, DOCX, or TXT when possible. If an AI download fails, check your storage and internet, then tap Resume. Delete a broken partial download if needed. Image questions need Gemma 4.
10. Customer FAQ
Does it need an API key?
No paid AI key is needed. Some AI downloads may need you to accept a free licence and use a read-only token.
Is everything uploaded?
No. Your saved items and main AI work stay on your phone. The privacy section above explains when internet is used.
Can it read PDF and Word files?
Yes, if the file contains readable text. Scanned PDFs must be changed into readable text first.
Can it add to Google Calendar?
It opens Android’s event-insert screen. You review and save to your chosen provider; My Memory does not silently modify an account.
Does it track places automatically?
No. One location is captured only after you tap Place.
Can the backup ZIP be restored?
Not inside version 0.7.0. Keep the exported ZIP as a safe backup.
Ready to stop losing useful things?
Start with one note, one screenshot or one recurring task. My Memory will take it from there.
